The PubWorks MapViewer
is Ready for Release
|
|
The
promise of GIS in Public Works has long been anticipated but, often times,
because of expense and complexity has had difficulty living up to
expectations. The cost of collecting many forms of asset data, organizing it
in a GIS and then developing the know-how to maintain and exploit that data
has proven to be a formidable challenge for most Public Works departments.
Starting now, PubWorks is changing that!
Our new MapViewer makes mapping extremely easy. Literally, all you need to
do is click the “Map” button from a variety of screens in PubWorks
and a map will be displayed instantly!
We’ve developed a user-friendly, intuitive way to create and use maps. A
summary of the MapViewer’s features include the following:

The MapViewer provides a natural interactivity between the map of your
city/county and the screens and data that are central to PubWorks.
This two-way street can be summarized as follows:
From the screens in PubWorks you can map the
displayed record (or records) with a single mouse click. More specifically, if you’re
viewing a Service Request record and you want it displayed on a map, simply click
the map button. The same holds for a location record, location
feature record and activity records. Where mapping is natural, a
“Map” button will be present and a click on it will produce a
map!
From the map, a wide variety of standard GIS tools will be available to
manipulate and display mapped assets in a wide variety of ways.
Additionally, your PubWorks Activity, Service Request and Work
Order data will accessible from the map so that, for example, a mouse click
will display maintenance history, cost history and work order history.
