Product News: A Re-Cap of our Latest Enhancements |
Over the past year we’ve
made a boat-load of enhancements…
SQL Server
Early in 2007, we rolled out the SQL Server version of PubWorks
to improve software performance and database reliability.
Through the years, Access
has been great; it’s free, it’s easy to deploy and it’s well-known and
well-understood. For many customers it has worked very well but it’s just
not the best in multi-user environments or for large databases.
The performance boost
delivered by SQL Server is phenomenal! We have one user (Flathead County,
Montana) who saw a report that took minutes to run in Access, take all of
two seconds to run after converting to SQL Server.
The second big reason for
using SQL Server is data reliability. SQL Server essentially bomb-proof and
will not be negatively effected in the face of PC and/or network failures.
This fact gives users the assurance that PubWorks will produce
that critical report or function when you need it and without interruption.
Remote Service Calls
We developed this module for folks who cannot be tied to their desks when
following-up on a Service Call. As long as you can occasionally connect your
laptop to your network (to synchronize Service Calls with the main
PubWorks database) this enhancement will allow you to update and
inquire on Service Calls anywhere you and your laptop happen to be!
Work Orders: Planning,
Scheduling and Assignment
This enhancement allows you to establish a plan and a schedule the work you
need to perform on a recurring basis. Once you tell PubWorks
how often you perform a task and the results you expect, PubWorks
can alert you with a to-do list when something needs to get done.
From your work plan and
schedule, PubWorks allows you to construct a detailed list of
activities to be performed. This list, complete with equipment and
materials, is assigned to an employee or crew to form a Work Order. The Work
Order has great flexibility and can be linked to Service Calls, planned-for
tasks, ad-hoc requests or any combination thereof.
Location Segments
This enhancement allows a street or road to be broken up into segments based
on what you, the customer, think is natural. Segmentation might be a
function of differing pavement types along the roadway (typical in a county
environment) or it might be all about your city’s grid system and
intersections.
With segmentation you can
more precisely record where work has been performed and this, in turn, will
give you a more accurate work maintenance history.
