Unit cost allows PubWorks to
calculate for you the cost of performing a particular work activity (Task) based on a standard unit of measurement.
These standard units of measurement (which in PubWorks are user-defined),
are things like miles, tons, acres, square yards. linear feet, etc.
Unit cost accounting is a very powerful analysis and decision making tool. It can help you determine department productivity,
comparing rates of cost when trying to decide whether to perform a project with in house resources
or with the resources of an outside
contractor.

Unit cost accounting analysis reports are provided on a general task basis, location basis, project and service call basis.
These units of measure are found and established in the Unit Types
table of the PubWorks database.
